Performance
A proven, two-staged, dual turbocharging system features a small turbo to provide quick low-speed response and a second, larger turbo to provide power at higher rpm and altitudes.
The horsepower band stays constant at 200 hp from 2,700 rpm to 3,000 rpm to provide great road speed and hill-climbing performance.
Four valves per cylinder make it easier for the engine to breathe.
The International® Electro-Hydraulic Generation Two (G2) fuel injector system delivers higher injection pressures with precise control to optimize performance, fuel economy and emissions.
Electronically monitored and controlled glow plugs provide unaided cold starts down to –10°F.
Low Noise
The cast iron bedplate design contains all four four-bolt main bearing caps in one piece to give additional strength to the bottom of the cylinder block, maintaining perfect bearing alignment and reducing noise.
The rear-mounted gear train drives the camshaft and internal high-pressure oil pump as well as an internal engine balancer located inside the camshaft, which reduces engine noise, vibration and harshness.
Simplified Maintenance System
The Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module (HFCM) incorporates:
- Primary 100-micron and 10-micron fuel filters in series
- Fuel-water separator with a “water-in-fuel” sensor and drain
- Fuel heater
- Electric-driven fuel transfer pump
Secondary fuel filter and oil filter are top-mounted and accessible from the driver’s side making them easy to reach and service, resulting in increased uptime and reduced operating costs.
Engine protection systems include an engine shutdown feature, water-in-fuel sensor and warning signals for oil change and other engine functions.
Glow plugs are replaceable without having to remove the valve covers, increasing uptime.
Hydraulic lifters do not need valve lash adjustments saving any associated service costs and are not required to maintain the warranty.
Simplified Emission Solution
The MaxxForce 5 is 2007 EPA emissions compliant with no impact on performance or fuel economy.
The closed-engine breather system is maintenance free and in-cylinder dosing eliminates the need for additional aftertreatment equipment.
